A certain exhilaration is part of the pleasure of discovering a new cruising destination. And this can be especially true in Thailand. With hundreds of safe anchorages amongst the scores of deserted tropical islands, good winds, and protected waters, the Andaman Sea area is fast becoming a firm favourite.

Charterers, visiting skippers, and their crews have the opportunity to explore the many facets of one of the most sophisticated cultures in Asia. There is the challenge and delight of a new language, different customs to observe, and an extraordinary range of exotic foods to delight the most discerning palate.

Chartering anything from a small bare-boat through to luxury crewed vessels in the hundred feet range is possible through charter agents or directly from the owners using our chartering directory. For those fortunate enough to arrive under their own sail, however we offer the following tips below.

However there is one danger NEVER mentioned in the sailing guides. It is this: there is a great temptation to stay - and stay - and stay. Many of Phuket's small businesses, and some of the major ones, too, are run by ex-yachties who lingered too long. I know. I'm one of them. So be warned. It can be addictive. Chartering is also addictive, Previous visitors keep returning for longer and longer periods.
