Formerly
a quiet, predominantly Muslim fishing village, Kamala is a beautiful
spot in which to relax and enjoy the still peaceful village atmosphere
of this scenic, unspoiled beach.
A small but good selection of bungalows, small hotels and lively
local restaurant's can be found in the closely settled southern
end of the bay, where fisherman can still be seen launching their
boats and nets daily. More secluded resorts nestle higher up amongst
the trees on the headland, capitalising on the wonderful sea and
mountain views, and only a few minutes walk to a sandy white beach
on the northern end.
A twice-weekly village market -- currently held each Wednesday
and Saturday afternoon -- provides ample colour and fun for the
visitor. You'll have the opportunity to mingle with friendly local
residents, and to sample locally produced fruit, vegetables and
delicious snacks. Also in Kamala is FantaSea Phuket, a cultural
theme park that presents a nightly extravaganza show, and is the
only one of its kind on the island.
If
relaxation in a small seaside community is what you're after,
you'll find Kamala a delight.
