Tournament Rules

- Teams will consist of TWO, THREE OR FOUR anglers.
- A camera will be given to each Team Captain.
- All marlin MUST be released. NO points awarded for marlin brought
to the pier or killed.
- All sailfish MUST be released. NO points awarded for sailfish
brought to the pier or killed.
- Sharks do NOT qualify for points and ALL sharks must be released
unharmed.
- SHARK POINT (HIN MUSA) is a restricted area and out of bounds
to the competition.
- Lines in by 17.00 hrs. If a competitor is playing a fish at
17.00 hrs the Boat Captain must note and radio in.
- Weight-in will be from 17.00-19.00 hrs at Ao Chalong Pier, and
will close promptly at 19.00 hrs. There will be NO deviation on
closing time.
- Boats MUST leave from Chalong Pier on all 3 days of the competition.
Any boat leaving from another of the island's bays will have their
catch for that day disqualified.
- The angler may use only conventional rods and reels. Wire line
is prohibited except as leader. Maximum leader length is 15 ft
(4.57 m) for line lines up to 20 lb. and combined length of leader
and double line must not exceed 20 ft (6.1 m) on line classes.
Over 20 lb. leader is limited to 30 ft (9.14 m). Combined length
of leader and double line is maximum 40 ft (12.19 m).
- Outriggers and downriggers may be used.
- There are no restrictions on number of lines trolled.
- Gaffs with a handle not exceeding 8 ft (2.43 m) are permitted.
Flying gaffs (detachable heads), may be used if rope does not
exceed 30 ft (9.14 m). Harpoons are forbidden.
- All boats must have leader cutters on board. Team Captains will
inspect before departure.
- Team Captains are to ensure that there are life vests on boat
for each competitor and/or visitors.
- Boat Captains are to radio in at least once each fishing day
between 14.00 hrs and 17.00 hrs.
- Any boat that deliberately hampers another to foul lines or
interfere with a capture will be disqualified from the tournament.
- Any boat reported for unsportsmanlike practice will be investigated.
Boat and/or Team Captains will be consulted and offending teams
may, at the Committee's decision, be disqualified.
- Any angler caught cheating during the competition will be disqualified
and will be prohibited from fishing in all future Phuket International
Sportfishing Classic tournaments.
- Fish caught that are obviously under qualifying weight should
be released unharmed.
- LITTER. Team Captains are asked to ensure that no litter is
thrown in the sea.
- Competitors fishing at anchor are requested to avoid damaging
coral reefs.
