Phi Phi Tours
Where do you go if you're already in a tropical paradise? This is a question many active holidaymakers must ask themselves once arrived in Phi Phi. Still, the island offers a veritable kaleidoscope of activities for those who want to do more than lounge on the beach or by the hotel pool with an umbrella cocktail.
For a start, not many know it but Phi Phi is a famous rock climbing destination and a lot more goes on in the hills surrounding Ton Sai Bay than people give credit for. And for once, snorkelling is not the poor man's scuba diving as Phi Phi's shallow waters are teeming with tropical fish and perfect for a mask and fins.
Maya Bay
If you've seen the movie 'The Beach' you've seen Maya Bay. Maya is a 20-minute boat ride away and is also a good snorkelling spot. Day trips from Krabi and Phuket pass by here so it can get a little frenetic at times but early morning and evening are good times to go to appreciate the beauty of the place.
Limestone outcrops shoot out of the bay's turquoise waters, their green hues making a perfect colour counterpoint to the water; thousands of tropical fish welcome you and the picture-perfect white-beach isn't too hard on the eyes… A tropical cliché? Sure, but appreciate it while you can… (Read more...)
Snorkeling
For the uninitiated, snorkelling on and around Phi Phi is world class and you don't even need to dive deep to get the sights. Phi Phi's waters are living bubbling proof that a pair of fins and a mask can go a long way if you know where to go.
Actually both crescent beaches on either side of the isthmus are great snorkelling spots but you'll have to head out a little on the Loh Dalum side near the rocks. The northern side of Ton Sai Bay (to the right of the pier, facing the sea) is also a choice spot and there are sites on neighbouring islands that are jaw-dropping beautiful. (Read more...)
Scuba Diving Daytrips & Courses
It's a good idea to stay on Phi Phi and make daily dive trips from there to all local dive sites. Trips to Koh Bida Nok, Koh Bida Nai, Maya Bay, Losamah Bay and other sites are quick and easy and there are morning and sometimes afternoon trips with two dives per trip.
You can also choose a trip (almost daily) to the King Cruiser Wreck and Shark Point. In the high season, there are regular speedboat day trips to the remoter dive sites of Hin Daeng and Hin Muang. (Read more...)
Island Hopping
There are many longtail boats for rent on the beach at Ton Sai Bay and the drivers all know the best snorkelling places. Perhaps the best is over an extensive, shallow reef just off Bamboo Island. This Island has a beautiful beach also worth visiting. During the high season a small restaurant usually sets up here, but there is no accommodation here.
Island (or beach) hopping in a longtail boat is immensely enjoyable and of course the advantage is that you can choose your own itinerary to avoid crowds. Just make sure to agree with the driver on a price beforehand. (Read more...)
