Shopping in Phi Phi
Shops in Phi Phi don't sell any goods that are entirely unique to the island but still there is a good and wide range of articles on sale here should the shopping bug bite. All the usual suspects are on offer: T-shirts, shorts, beachwear, sandals, hats and holiday paraphernalia as well as secondhand books and jewelry.
There are several convenience stores and a 7-Eleven by the pier and clothes boutiques are not hard to find. As in other beach destinations, you will find pirated DVD's and computer games as well as fake designer clothes. There are also several pharmacies.
What to Buy
There are many small shops in Tonsai village and there you can buy almost everything you need from water to batteries, beachwear, T-shirts, Thai handicrafts, silver ornaments, hand-made jewellery, attractive clothing, DVD's and CD's to handicrafts, sunglasses and sports equipment. Snorkel and dive gear is accessible to hire or buy.
Prices are generally a little higher in Phi Phi which accounts for transportation costs to the island. (Read more...)
Where to Buy
On the east side of the island (Loh Dalum) you can't buy anything except a beer or a soft drink but head back west towards Ton Sai and you'll come to a market selling fresh food and the usual T-shirts and hats ensembles.
Ton Sai is packed with shops selling goods such as jewelry, souvenirs, textiles, singlets, shorts, snorkeling gear, flip flops and just about everything you could imagine. The wooden games are a good souvenir to take back home. (Read more...)
