Dining in Pattaya
When it comes to dining in Pattaya, you will be spoiled for choices! Like everywhere in Thailand, the local Thai food is excellent – just as good on the street as in a fancy restaurant (you pay more for the air-conditioning and ambiance ). All around Pattaya, you'll find dozens of food vendors and noodle stalls where you can dine al fresco for under 50 baht.
If you prefer more elegant dining you'll find excellent local restaurants with both Thai and international cuisine at all popular areas and of course at the better hotels. Sample a variety of food from across the world, such as excellent Cantonese cuisine, mouthwatering Indian cuisine, mucho bueno Mexican food, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, Italian, German, Scandinavian and many more – all compete for your palate, at very reasonable prices.
What to Eat
Definitely seafood, since a vast variety of choices is available just about everywhere. You can have it grilled BBQ style, or with popular Thai food like 'Tom Yum Kung', Thailand's official national dish. Pattaya has hundreds of international restaurants run by local expats , a good opportunity to try something new and different.
Some examples are Greek, Russian, Lebanese and Scandinavian cuisine, the likes of which isn't even easy to find in Bangkok. Local street food comes highly recommended too – cheap, delicious, and it's available everywhere, anytime of the day or night.
Where to Eat
Enjoy it local style at an outdoor eatery; dishes like Chinese noodle, c hicken with rice, 'Pad Thai' and many more. Plastic chairs and fold-up tables appear from nowhere along both sides of Second Road and in the Naklua area. Fresh seafood and authentic international cuisine is served at many restaurants facing Pattaya Beach, in Walking Street, and at high-end resorts and hotels.
More romantic and private restaurants are lined along Jomtien B each, some even with complimentary guitar or piano sounds to accompany your meal. Some resorts and hotels also offer set menus or buffets for lunch and dinner at reasonable prices – very often the best way to sample a variety of dishes at the same time. (Read more...)
