Traditional
Thai massage is quite unlike Western versions, involving a combination
of assisted stretching and acupressure, rather than manipulation
of muscles. Don't worry though, in busy Patong every known variation
of massage treatment is readily available at any one of a hundred
differing establishments. For the more cautious, a traditional Thai
massage is a straightforward and perfect way to freshen up before
a night out on the town, rejuvenate after a long journey, or recover
from the night before. If you don't fancy the whole deal, try some
foot reflexology treatment - not for the ticklish - there are several
centres where you can get treatments that last an hour or so all
around the Patong area. Beachside
it is even possible to have a massage, and although the masseurs
are not always of the highly trained variety here, it is an inexpensive
and pleasantly relaxing experience.
Other styles of massage are also to be found - and as the number
of spa and massage centres opening around Patong increases, so too
do the range of treatments available, and the level of professionalism.
Sports massage, Swedish massage, herbal and steam baths, sauna and
various local herbal beauty treatments can be found. For those interested
in a more "interactive" and perhaps discreet massage, and depending
on the type and location of the establishment, a whole range of
other "massage services" can be provided. ChristIn Massage
on Rat-U-Thit Road is one of the larger such establishments, but
visitors will have no difficulty in locating many smaller massage
parlours offering a very personal service indeed.
If
your interest is purely in the therapeutic benefits of a professional
no-frills massage conducted by trained staff, or in a complete pampering
of the senses through aromatheraphy, herbal sauna, and body toning
treatments - then head to one of the established spas such as the
Spa
Clinique run by Sportathlon at Le Meridien Hotel outside
of Patong , or Andaman Garden Spa at Club Andaman along Hadpatong
Road. Both provide pampering for the body, mind and spirit in serene
surroundings.
New in Patong is the PurePenny Aromatheraphy centre where one can
spend a few hours undergoing such luxuries as aromatheraphy using
traditional Thai oils, reflexology, beauty treatments, hair styling
etc. A no appointment necessaryhairdressing department allows you
to "see" your potential hair cut on state of the art computer
equipment before taking the plunge. For more information check out
their website on www.PurePenny.com
