For those who like to dance the night away, there are 3 great choices
around Patong.
The
Banana Disco is centrally located along beach road near the
turn onto Bangla Road. For local Thais, expatriates and tourists
alike, this is perhaps the most favourite disco in town. Whether
you come alone, as a couple, or in a group, there is a lot to enjoy
with good music, great dancing and good people watching to be had.
Commercial sleaze is not obvious here - in fact it is entirely absent
of girlie bar emphasis. One can enjoy a drink at reasonable prices,
dance and enjoy without constant harassment. Not-withstanding, it
is a favourite haunt of "20 and 30 somethings" - especially later
in the evening when many of Patong's night workers have knocked
off - which makes for the opportunity for people to meet and mingle
on an entirely "free-lance" basis should they feel inclined. Open
until earlyish morning.
With up-to-the-minute sound and lighting and a larger than average
dance floor, this club is good for those who don't like to rub shoulders
on the dance floors. Open until later than most, it's a good place
to stop by at if you're a "stayer".
The Safari Pub and Disco is another favourite of locals
- not least of all because of the lack of entrance fee. Located
on the main road out of Patong heading towards the Meridien, this
night club come disco is a little bit different
to others. Open from early evening, you can dine here, and dance
til early morning. Live music and a DJ provide most of the entertainment,
with special shows performed on Tuesday and Thursday nights for
which many colourful people show up to see as the night progresses.
Its location a bit out of town makes it more of an adventure getting
there and getting home, but it is well worth the visit.
