Mail and Postal Services

Patong's main post office is located along Rat-U-Thit Road, next to the Patong Palace Hotel at the northern end of Patong. Opening hours are from 8am to 4.30pm. The Thai post service is usually reliable. Urgent or important items can be sent by EMS services. This is faster and safer but the cost is higher. Simple items such as postcards etc can be sent from the reception desks of most major hotels.

Telecommunications/Internet

International phone calls, bureau fax, and Internet services are widely available throughout Patong. Most hotels can provide telephone and fax services. Public telephones are not the greatest choice for making long distance or overseas calls - far easier to go to one of the many business offices that offer this service or do it from your hotel. There is the option of going to a sidewalk mobile phone stand - they offer you the use of their mobile phone to make long distance or overseas calls for a fixed price per 5 minutes. Local calls are easily made from public phones but you will need to check whether the phone is a card or coin phone. Telephone cards are available from various places such as Seven-Eleven convenience stores, some stationary stores and pharmacies, the post office and telephone authority offices.

Internet services are springing up in all the main tourist areas, catering for Internet savvy tourists. Many hotels have an Internet service, but if not, these are a just few of the many Internet cafes to be found where a pleasant hour or few hours can be spent surfing the net or contacting friends by email.
