Krabi Nightlife
Nightlife in Krabi is not the overpowering neon-lit madness of Patong or Pattaya and is all the better for it. Ao Nang is the epicentre of Krabi's party universe and features international restaurants, lots of bars and some live music venues. Next-door Railay has a great beach nightlife scene with lots of Reggae, fire-dancing, lounging around and a little dancing by the sea while Koh Lanta's west coast is where it's at from November to May. Lanta positively wins trophies for laid-backness.
If you're looking for a quiet drink with perhaps a little acoustic live music in the background head for Krabi Town with its many guesthouses and backpackers' bars.
Ao Nang Nightlife
Ao Nang's nightlife is like a scaled-down version of Patong's in most senses. The main beachside road is mostly reserved for restaurants and vendors, much like Patong's, and a lot of the nightlife goes on in the sois running parallel behind it. Center Point, again behind the main beach road, is a warren of bars with hostesses and drinks deals.
The Rocky Bar seems to be the happening place here, with a live duo and an easy going feel to it. The soi opposite Krabi Seaview Resort on the southern road leading out of town is a venue for lonely single males. (Read more...)
Railay Beach Nightlife
On both sides of the slim Railay isthmus you will find beach 'happenings'. Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Coldplay and the gang have a field day on these beaches while fire-dancers light up the night and partiers loll on floor cushions. Simply stroll along the beach and stop at will, there's not much more to it than that really.
On the eastern side the tide sometimes washes right up to under the elevated bar, lending a real beachside feel to the proceedings. (Read more...)
Phi Phi Nightlife
Phi Phi by day is abuzz with tourists visiting on day tours from Phuket and Krabi. At sunset 'drinks buckets' (mickey-sized bottles of liquor with ice and mixers) come out and before you know it Phi Phi is rocking. The Reggae Bar is one of the main attractions and holds Thai boxing events.
Along all the lanes of the isthmus there's a lot going on and there's something for everyone here except girlie bars. Take your choice from the cool cafés, loud pubs, rooftop bars, bookshop-cafés, one dance place and beachside fire-dancing parties as well as a couple of live music venues. (Read more...)
Koh Lanta Nightlife
The casual look rules at night here: shorts, T-shirt and flip-flops are the best partying outfit to wear when partying along Lanta's west coast laid-back beach bars. As the coast is quite long (over 30 kilometres) you will probably gravitate to the area nearest your accommodation but party central seems to be at the northern end of the island with its bar after bar of spacey music, floor cushions and bamboo-and-thatch design.
Trance music is in, big time, along with fire dancing and beach parties. Though not as vibrant as Ao Nang, the friendly vibe is hard to resist.
