Shopping in Koh Chang
Shopping in Koh Chang caters more for convenience and souvenir shopping than, say, the mega-malls and numerous markets found in Bangkok. While night and day markets and souvenir shops are abundant, counterfeit classics are probably best bought on the mainland, even though they can be readily found on the island.
Quaint market and boutique stalls around the area sell locally, hand-made crafts and furniture, which are unique, eye-catching and with very reasonable price tags. CDs and DVDs can be bought by the bucket load from street and beach vendors as can various types of beach apparel like sunglasses and branded T-shirts.
What to Buy
Most of Thailand's visitors come equipped with a wish-list of goods they want to pick up. Amongst these things are CDs and DVDs bought for a fraction of the price they would cost back home.
The island's counterfeit culture does not quite measure up against the scale of Bangkok's, but some convincing Balenciaga bags have been spotted on arms of Koh Chang dwellers. Shopping in Koh Chang can be done within the confines of air-conditioned resort boutiques, street-side stalls off the main road, night markets and, of course, most of the beaches – by day and night.
The increasingly popular Portobello is a firm favorite with both locals and tourists looking for some unique home furnishings. Mainly producing lamps, the family-run business also sells semi-precious costume jewelry and is situated next door to the Koh Chang Kacha Resort.
