Dining in Khao Lak
Thailand, at first impression, appears to be obsessed with its cuisine. Everywhere you look people are eating or cooking and some are doing both at the same time. Khao Lak is no different than Bangkok in this department and this means that the range of dishes available is impressive and certainly appetising.
Finally, the golden rule of where to eat out is no different here than in other places – go where the people are.
What to Eat
Obviously, the catch of the day is what people along this coastline have mostly in mind when heading out to dinner but there's more to life than seafood in Khao Lak. With its multi-national tourism and scuba diving industries, appetites and tastes are varied.
There are a few Italian outlets, an excellent international-Thai restaurant called Tiffy's Café next to the Sea Dragon scuba centre in north Khao Lak and lots of Scandinavian places. A holiday here would not be complete without trying a roadside noodle and rice stand.
Where to Eat
The hotel satellite restaurants near the beach in Nang Thong and Bang Niang are good places to dine out at and there are several worthwhile establishments along the main road heading through Khao Lak Centre and further north.
For expense-no-object fine dining, both the Sarojin and Le Meridien excel while for cheap lunches, noodle and rice dishes abound in roadside bamboo-and thatch Thai restaurants. There is no beach road as such in Khao Lak, making it hard to simply stroll along the beach trawling for a good seafood outlet as in Koh Samui but it's still fun having a look down the many roads leading off the main road down to the beach.
