What to See in Hua Hin

You won't be hard pushed to find things to see in Hua Hin, where the rich structures tell stories of Thailand's historical past and bourgeoning future. Fringed by epic vegetation and scenic bays, the fusion of natural and man-made beauty provides an interesting context to view the surrounding area.

The mountainous landscape and forested land provide a good way to start the exploration. With attractions that range from temple visits to elephant trekking, Hua Hin succeeds in providing a valuable education on Thailand's oldest and most prestigious beach resort.

Royal Palaces

The holiday residence of the world's longest reigning monarch, H.M. King Bhumibol Adulyadej, is a Spanish-inspired building offering an interesting addition to Thailand's architecture. Only frequented by those who receive an invitation, the nearest tourists will get to the property is a gate-side view.

However, the former residence of Rama VI is open to the general public, welcoming guests to pause and view its wonders that include manicured gardens with lush greenery. Situated north of Hua Hin, the palace is the longest golden teak palace in the world, making it an absolute must for visitors to Hua Hin. (Read more...)

Hua Hin Temples

Hua Hin has several temples residing in and around the area, the main one being Wat Hua Hin in the centre of town. Other nearby temples are Wat Bor Hin, situated five km north of Hua Hin, and Wat Bor Fi which includes tranquil ponds with catfish that can be fed.

These impressive structures are typical of Thai culture and the spirituality that is so dominant to the land and way of life. Being 95% Buddhist, pretty much wherever you are in the country a temple will never be too far away. As places of worship, visitors should note that shoulders must be covered at all times and smart clothes preferably worn.

Hua Hin Railway Station

If you are coming from Bangkok a train could well be the preferred mode of transport, a great way to witness the stretch of land and agricultural delights that rest between Hua Hin and the Thai capital.

Upon arriving in Hua Hin you will disembark the train in the same manner royalty did, at Thailand’s oldest train station with is distinctive Victorian style. It is definitely worth checking out the Royal Waiting Room and old steam locomotives. The station so famed by royal exposure is situated at the top-end of Damnoern Kasen Road. (Read more...)

Elephant Village

The animal most commonly affiliated with Thailand can be enjoyed at this elephant camp situated some three kilometers west of the town centre. Upon arrival you will be introduced to and familiarized with the gentle giants.

The significance of elephants to Thai culture goes far beyond merely being a tourist attraction; they have been integral through the ages as a means of transportation and used for agriculture. Here, visitors are given the opportunity to experience the gentle nature of the animals first-hand. Another smaller camp sits in Khao Takiab, where visitors can feed the animals and rides are offered.

Animal Park

Entrance to this little known animal park is free, making it a pleasant and economical choice. A great place for a family day out, the park plays home to a number of monkeys, deer, tortoises, reptiles, porcupines and tropical birds.

An inviting area to picnic, guests are advised to bring their own supplies as the area is scarce of shops and restaurants (and English language signs). Situated about 10 km north of Hua Hin, it is also home to a government-funded 'Deer Research Centre', and an excellent choice for animal and nature enthusiasts.
