Chiang Mai Nightlife
After a long day of sightseeing and adventures out in nature, take a deep breath and get ready for the variety of nightlife experiences available in Chiang Mai. Pubs, bars, karaoke venues and all sorts of places in between can be found at main tourist areas like Moon Muang Road (near Tha Phae Gate / Old City), and around the Night Bazaar.
Ladyboy cabaret shows make for great entertainment for visitors of all ages, and there are several venues. Shows consist of a variety of dazzling numbers in glitzy, over-the-top costumes. The Night Safari is a good place for those wishing to escape from the city buzz for a very unusual experience to encounter nocturnal wild life. Or simply just unwind with an ice-cold beer at a sidewalk café watching the world go by at the Night Bazaar. Whatever you choose, Chiang Mai has as many charms after dark as during the day.
A variety of pubs, bars and lounges can be found along Moon Muang Road and at the Night Bazaar. Choices include the full spectrum, from local places with cheap drinks to high-end lounges with funky music. Along the Ping River there are a number of venues offering live music. A great place to hang out with locals is at pubs and bars located near Chiang Mai University.
Also try the mobile 'Van Bar' at Tha Phae Gate (near THC Bar) for cheap beer, whiskey and colourful cocktails served by the glass or bucket. Thailand's ladyboy shows are famous and provide outstanding entertainment for the whole family. There are a few venues in Chiang Mai that do this legacy proud. Expect lots of over-the-top costumes, posing and lip-sync glitz. Popular music numbers are performed by 'katoeys' (ladyboys) with fantastic sets and scenes.

Considered as one of the best night safaris in the world, Chiang Mai Night Safari is twice the size of the one in Singapore. Tours start by tram ride (every 15 minutes) through 'Savanna Safari' where African wildlife roam freely in an open environment.
Then a hair-rising experience follows at the 'Predator Prowl' zone where lions, African hunting dogs, white tigers, Canadian wolves and Asiatic black bears are kept. 'Jaguar Tail' is a wandering around the lake that will take you to an enchanting flower garden with some animals nearby.
