Siam Square and Pratunam are great for shopping! Very popular
with both local Thais and tourists the area offers both modern shopping
centres and local markets. You can find clothes (young and trendy)
shoes, hand bags, fashion accessories, jewellry, computer equipment
and souvenirs all within a relatively small area.
Several air-conditioned shopping centres (malls) are linked together
in a complex which includes Siam Centre, Siam Discovery and MBK.
There are boutiques, department stores, beauty salons, restaurants,
cinemas, bars and cafes. The area has recently had a facelift incorporating
brand and designer names, fashion boutiques and cosmopolitan food
outlets. The Bangkok Skytrain (overhead rail system) provides a
convenient stop, making Siam a definite "shop til you drop"
area.
Pratunam. Well known for its street markets, bazaar and
local vendors, Pratunam offers bargain prices for T shirts, jeans,
shoes, calculators, watches, jewellry and souvenirs. If you're looking
for something more up market - nearby is the World Trade centre.
This large shopping complex, adjacent to Pratunam, offers a similar
range of merchandise to The Siam Center and also contains cinemas
and an ice skating rink.
